Wedding FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
When can we have our ceremony?
St John’s Church is available for weddings on most days throughout the year. St John’s is not available for weddings on Sundays, over Easter - during Holy Week or Easter Saturday.
Please contact our office to check available dates and for information on the cost of having your wedding with us.
What if we are not Anglican?
You do not have to be Anglicans to be married in St John’s. However, the service must be taken by our Priest here at St John’s ( Not another denomination or another visiting Priest) As we are licenced to conduct a service only with the traditional Anglican vows and the rites of the Anglican Church.
What if one or both of us have been married before?
If a previous marriage ended in divorce, you can still be re-married in the Anglican Church.
How do we plan for our wedding service?
There are many details that need to be considered. You will need to discuss the ‘Notice of Intended marriage form’ ( legal paperwork) order of service, readings, music, etc
Please contact our Church office on 08-93352213 (email – parish@ang.org.au) to organise some information and a wedding application form to be mailed or emailed to you. If you go ahead with your wedding at St John’s, we will do all the administrative aspects of your wedding, prepare all the legal paperwork and certificates, organise parking, give you a full wedding rehearsal two days before the wedding, and answer all your wedding enquiries. This is all included in the cost ( Basically, we do everything).
What about the music for our ceremony?
The Parish has been gifted with a wonderful pipe organ and we have a professional organist, who is part of the package ( included in the cost ) we welcome additional musicians provided by you. We can also arrange for a soloist to be a part of your wedding. Additionally a CD or recorded music of your choice can be played, for example as your entry music , but our organist will be a part of the ceremony and we don’t negotiate the wedding charges or cut the organist out of the wedding in any way. The church has a good quality sound system which music can be played through, but nothing beats the sound of our magnificent Pipe Organ.
What about Flowers?
St John’s provides beautiful flower arrangements for your wedding, at the entrance to the Church , two arrangements at the screen at the front of the Church and two arrangements at the High altar ( all included in the cost ). These flowers cannot be taken with you or your bridal party though; they remain in the Church. You are most welcome to add to flowers to our arrangements or by placing flowers or bows on the ends of the pews ( no pins allowed) , these can be tied on by your florist or nominated person, and need to be taken with you at the end of the ceremony.
What about Photo’s?
A photographer ( and videographer ) are most welcome to take photos and videos before, during and after the ceremony, and our Priest encourages this by arranging photo opportunities during the service, at the signing of the register and before leaving the church. ( and Yes the flash is allowed inside the Church and during the ceremony)
What about Parking?
We take care of the parking for you by reserving 8 bays for parking at the front of the Church for your wedding cars ( limousines ).
On the wedding day
Please arrive in plenty of time. You will be far more relaxed if you have time to collect your thoughts before the ceremony begins, and to organise the bridal party for the procession. It is neither “traditional” or”fashionable” for the bride to be late for the wedding. Many people have arranged to be at the church for your wedding at an agreed time. If there is another wedding that day and you arrive late you may find the wedding to be rushed or unecessary stress to everyone involved.
Please Note
- Rose petals are allowed to be thrown inside and outside the church on the day, as long as they are cleaned up after the ceremony, but no confetti or rice is to be used.
